Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson star in “Song Sung Blue,” a musical drama inspired by the true story of a 1990s Neil Diamond tribute band and their unlikely path to regional fame.
I must admit that when I hear the chorus to “Sweet Caroline,” I HAVE to sing along to that Neil Diamond song. However, it’s not just the songs that drew me in to this movie, the film’s storyline intrigued me as well.
Based on an incredible true story, Mike (Hugh Jackman) and Claire (Kate Hudson) are two down-on-their-luck musicians who prove that it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams. They form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band called Lightning and Thunder, rising from a humble garage to dive bar gigs to unexpected hometown stardom. When tragedy strikes, their love for each other and passion for music give them the strength to overcome hardships, rediscover hope, and inspire everyone around them.
The two lead actors have great chemistry, and the singing performance is believable. Yes, it really is their voices crooning in the movie. Honestly, we knew from Hugh Jackman’s Broadway background that he can sing and dance. Also, for those who don’t know, Kate Hudson released an album called “Glorious” in May 2024 and after listening to several of her songs, it’s obvious that she has the vocal chops!
I won’t spoil it, but partway through the movie, there is a turn of events that shifts the tone a bit. I will say that it highlights Kate Hudson’s character as someone who is tenacious and resilient. It’s no wonder that Kate a 2026 Golden Globe nominee for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy!
The film’s star-studded ensemble cast also features Michael Imperioli (Goodfellas), King Princess (“Nine Perfect Strangers”), Mustafa Shakir (Emancipation), Fisher Stevens (“Succession”) and Jim Belushi (“Saturday Night Live”).
Overall, this is an entertaining and terrific movie!

I love Hugh Jackman! From Wolverine to The Greatest Showman, he’s such a good actor.
Both
Hugh Jackman
I keep seeing this film and it is one I want to watch I do love films like this and who does not know at least one of the songs
I didn’t realise Kate Hudson was a singer as well. Hugh Jackman is great too, so I can fully believe that this is one to watch. I’m not massively familiar with Neil Diamond (apart from sweet caroline) but I get the impression that this doesn’t hugely matter. Sounds like a great story.

I do love both Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman, both are great actors. Kate has actually sung in a few films. This sounds like the perfect movie for my dad. He would really appreciate the music featured throughout the movie especially “Sweet Caroline”

I wanted to see this when it came out but I never got round to it, so I need to now. I didn’t realise Kate was an actual singer, some people are so talented x
This is such a feel good movie. We saw it in the theater, and we loved it.
This looked sooo good. I’m a huge Neil Diamond fan, so I can’t wait to see it. Kate and Hugh both have amazing voices.
Hugh Jackman!
I’m excited to see Hugh Jackman.
I have a hard time resisting a good singalong to those classic tribute songs. Knowing it is based on a true story makes the drama better.
I do love it when the actors really feel like they fit together! This sounds like a great movie.

Actually both. But hoping to see Hugh sing. I’ve been a fan of Neil Diamond for a while. Got excited hearing Sweet Caroline at Fenway Park in Boston. It just gives me the shivers.
They’re so exciting!
I love both, but I’m a huge Kate Hudson fan.
I want to see and hear both on screen.
