The Fall Guy is a love letter to stunt performers. Starring Ryan Gossling as stuntman Colt Seavers and Emily Blunt as Jody Moreno, a first-time movie director, the movie is part rom-com, part action movie. Personally, I’d say that it leans more towards a romantic comedy; however, the digital version contains an all-new extended cut with 20 more minutes of rowdy action, stunts and laughs!
Oscar® nominee Ryan Gosling (Barbie, La La Land, Drive) stars as Colt Seavers, a battle-scarred stuntman who, is drafted back into service after a near-career ending accident when Tom Ryder (Golden Globe® winner Aaron Taylor-Johnson; Bullet Train), the star of a mega-budget studio movie—being directed by Colt’s ex, Jody Moreno, played by Golden Globe® winner Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place films, Sicario)—goes missing.
For those not familiar with the source material, the movie was inspired by the ‘80s TV series, The Fall Guy, starring Lee Majors and Heather Thomas, who played Colt and Jody respectively.
The film also stars Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Winston Duke (Black Panther franchise) and nominee Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once).

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt have great chemistry in the movie. If you saw them present a tribute montage to stunt performers at the 2024 Oscars earlier this year, then you could see that their banter is genuine.
Ultimately the movie rests on Ryan Gosling’s very capable shoulders. Much like his performance in Crazy, Stupid, Love and Barbie, he knows how to play the scene for laughs, but can dial it back during tender moments.
Lead actress Emily Blunt is a great foil to Gosling’s Colt. As Jody, Blunt plays a no-nonsense director intent on keeping her film on track. Playing the ‘straight man’ is perfect for Blunt, who plays her character with aplomb.
Overall, the movie is quite entertaining with solid performances all around! The PG-13 film is available to buy or rent on digital platforms today, May 21st.
