Dr. Andrea Oliveau is a family, pregnancy and pediatric chiropractor focusing on stressed out parents and busy kids. She owns Restoration Chiropractic, a pediatric and family chiropractic office in Woodland Hills.

I became acquainted with Dr. Andrea through Facebook. She has built a thriving chiropractic business, one that focuses on women and children. I found her story fascinating and wanted to share it with my readers! Please meet the latest Real Mom of the SFV – Dr. Andrea Oliveau!

How/why did you begin your business?

Dr. Andrea Oliveau: In 2004 I was a new mother and fairly new chiropractor. I was working for another doctor and driving to various offices in Southern California. I decided to open my own practice, so that I had more flexibility and freedom with my family.

As a working mother, what is one tip or piece of advice that you would give to other female entrepreneurs?

Dr. Andrea Oliveau: Most of us become entrepreneurs because A) we have some sort of gift to share with the world and B) we want time freedom. But running a business takes a lot of time and if you do it well, you might realize you built yourself a “job.”

I think the biggest tip I could give would be to continually reassess if your business is giving you what you want. Are you working more hours than you want? Is your overhead too high? Do you have quality time with your family? Are you able to shut down and rest when you need it? What are the key things you wanted from running a business and are you getting those? You can mold and change things as needed, and as the seasons of your life change.

The second tip I would give is to take time away from running the business to sit down and plan/dream. Our desires change with time and age. Is what you built still what you want? Do you need to pivot or shift some aspect of your life to mesh with your current goals?

Early in my career I was well known for helping people with chronic pain. I was good at it, but it was exhausting. When I closed my practice and moved, I took some time to dial in exactly who I wanted to serve and the answer that kept showing up was moms and kids. So now I have a pediatric and family practice and I LOVE it.

The beauty of entrepreneurship is the flexibility and freedom. Take advantage of those to build a life that serves you. 🙂

What do you like best about having a business in the San Fernando Valley?

Dr. Andrea Oliveau: Definitely the people! There are people from all walks of life here and a thriving business community. I love getting to know everyone and making new contacts. Our proximity to the beach is a nice bonus, too.

If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be?

Dr. Andrea Oliveau: I wish I realized how much effort it would take! Building a stable business that is well known takes a heck of a lot of work. I also wasn’t good at the mundane parts of my business, like looking at stats and working through finances. The marketing and sales came naturally to me, but the day-to-day tasks did not. Once I learned those aspects, my business became very stable, and I could always predict growth; I wish I had learned it much sooner!
