Earlier this month, I saw an advanced screening of “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” which opens today December 19th, in theaters nationwide.
It’s a bold follow-up to “Avatar: The Way of Water” and fans of the franchise will surely enjoy the incredible action sequences.
So, what’s this movie about? The third installment in Cameron’s groundbreaking Avatar series takes audiences back to Pandora in an immersive new adventure with Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Na’vi warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and the Sully family. The film introduces the Ash people, a fire-themed Na’vi clan, led by the fiery Varang (Oona Chaplin).

The visuals are terrific, especially in 3D! James Cameron continues to push the envelope in terms of production values.
The screenplay was written by James Cameron & Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver. Rounding out the cast is Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, David Thewlis, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, and Kate Winslet.
Overall, the innovative visual effects make it a captivating film. I thought that Varang made a great villian. I also enjoyed seeing Edie Falco returning in her role as General Ardmore, going toe to toe with Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang). That said, I did find it a little too long; however, I know fans will like it and be thoroughly entertained.
This is the type of movie that is made for the big screen. Pro Tip: Go see it in 3D in IMAX! It really makes a difference.
Thanks, 20th Century Studios and The Walt Disney Company for the invite!
