Like many of you this past 4th of July weekend, my family chowed down on burgers, hot dogs & other comfort food to celebrate the holiday. If your kids are like the ones in my immediate & extended family, they love a good mac & cheese. Earlier this year, we tried out Mac-O-licious in Valley Village which hands down has the best variety of mac & cheese entrees in the San Fernando Valley!
I was really excited about trying out the food at Mac-O-licious, having seen their food truck a while back in various LA neighborhoods & farmers markets. Fun fact: Kelly Chapman, the owner of Mac-O-licious was featured on CNBC’s “Restaurant Start-up.” How cool is that?!?
When you first step into the restaurant, you are immediately drawn to the handwritten chalkboard menu. My hubby, daughter & I needed at least 10 minutes to figure out what to get – so many delicious sounding choices!
After we ordered, we sat down at one of the tables & sipped on our lemonades. I ordered a Mixed Berry Lemonade, while my daughter & husband opted for the Fresh Lemonade. Mac-O-licious makes their lemonades from scratch & you can definitely taste the difference. It’s SO yummy!
The decor is both kitschy & inspirational. Take for instance the throw pillows & lamp shades with mac & cheese designs or the faux green grass under the tables. So cute! Also I love these quotes that they have hanging on the wall.
So how does the food taste? We all agree that it was delish!
My daughter had the Original Southern Fried Mac Pops. When we first read the description, I immediately thought of the Trader Joe’s Mac & Cheese Balls. However these are ten times better! Freshly fried with a cornbread crust & an awesome creamy cheese sauce. Mmmm mmmm good…
I ordered the 5 Cheese Mac. The cheese blend in this entree included asiago, fontina, gruyere, parmesan & cheddar cheese. It’s a cheese lovers dream!
Last but not least, my husband had the Frous Frous Mac, which is a mac & cheese dish with crab meat. Mike got it with a mini crab cake on top.
All in all, it was a great meal. We were stuffed with comfort food & rolled outta there very satisfied!
If you’d like more info on Mac-O-licious, check out their website. Take note: the restaurant also does catering & ships nationwide too! I see an order in my future. 🙂
