My family loves Mexican food. My husband tends to favor tacos or burritos, while I am always down for a good chile relleno, tacos or enchiladas. My daughter is happy as long as there is a cheese quesadilla on the menu & an endless supply of tortilla chips.
Recently my daughter & I took a quick trip (just 15-20 minutes north from where we live) to try out solita Tacos in Valencia. It’s located at the Valencia Town Center which is the local mall for Santa Clarita Valley residents. This is the perfect location for solita Tacos (in my opinion). After you’ve done some power shopping for holiday gifts, then you’ll have worked up an appetite for some good Mexican food (which is exactly what we had done that morning). 🙂
We munched on some chips & salsa while we perused the menu. In my mind, if you can’t make a good salsa, then that is a telling sign about how the rest of the meal could be. I was very pleased with all 3 salsas that solita Tacos offered. Our waitress had warned me that the “evil green” (that was what she called the green salsa) has a kick to it. I like spicy food & salsas, so I personally loved it!
We ordered our food & drinks – my kiddo got the horchata, while I ordered their fruity flavored iced tea. The horchata was sweet & yummy! Mixed in with the tortilla chips was a wagon wheel looking chip. It’s called a duro & it’s made with puffed wheat flour. We couldn’t get enough of those duros!
So how does the food taste? Since solita is known for their tacos, I had ordered the El Primo Taco Taster Plate which comes with four tacos (there are a 11 different ones to choose from) plus a side dish. All four tacos were yummy: beer battered shrimp, grilled ancho chile chicken, carne asada & red chile beef borracho. My favorite taco was the red chile beef borracho. The shredded beef was so tender & the red chile salsa was delish! The next time we come back to the restaurant, I plan on getting the red chile beef as a burrito or enchilada.
Chloe enjoyed her quesadilla, rice & sweet potato fries. However the standout for her was that horchata drink – “Mommy, it tastes like Christmas!”
Speaking of drinks, solita Tacos has an extensive list of adult beverages, including 40 different tequilas. They also have a very special Casa Noble Single Barrel that is exclusive to the restaurant.
solita Tacos has both indoor & outdoor seating. The decor is light & bright in the restaurant.
I can’t wait to come back again & have my hubby try it out!
Visit their website if you’d like more info on solita Tacos & don’t forget to follow them on Twitter to get their latest updates!

Now I am hungry! We love Mexican food — it’s easily our most favorite type to go out for. And you hit the nail on the head: if the salsa isn’t good, I’m sort of “eh” about it all! That salsa is telltale. Then to offer good horchata? Seals the deal! I love finding gems not too far from the house like that. Enjoy!
