Meet the Co-Owners of The L.A. Kindergarten Class!

Posted on September 18, 2018 | Filed Under: Real Moms of the SFV | Tags: Caden Chernoff, Kim Haselhoff, kindergarten planning, The L.A. Kindergarten Class | Leave a Comment

I remember when my daughter was younger & I wasn’t sure where to enroll her for preschool, let alone kindergarten. At the time I felt there was so much angst surrounding the decision – location, public, private, etc. I had wished there was a resource to help me & my husband navigate the landscape of kindergarten schools.

Fortunately for parents of kindergartener or preschool-aged children, there is a resource available now. The L.A. Kindergarten Class hosts group events, as well as private planning sessions to help educate LA-area parents on their choices for schools.

Please meet the latest Real Moms of the SFV – Caden Chernoff & Kim Haselhoff of The L.A. Kindergarten Class!

How/why did you begin your business?
Caden & Kim: Parents in Los Angeles have a lot of choices and challenges when it comes to finding the best schools for their kids. The landscape is rough. Parents struggle to find out their options and to figure out what’s best for their children. The “system” is overwhelming and puts a huge burden on parents to maneuver within it.

Our business came about when we connected over our concern for what parents are dealing with!

After applying to 20 schools for my daughter for Kindergarten, and living through a hellish year of fact-finding and uncertainty, it seemed like there ought to be a better way! Why do parents of preschoolers throughout LA have to figure this all out for themselves? Shouldn’t I be able to turn around and help the people who will be coming through all of this next?

As working mothers, what is one tip or piece of advice that you would give to other female entrepreneurs?
Caden & Kim: Don’t wait until you have it all figured out – just start doing what you can, here and there, to get things going. It doesn’t have to be perfect to BEGIN!

What do you like best about having a business in the San Fernando Valley?
Caden & Kim: The San Fernando Valley is an important part of Los Angeles which often gets ignored when people are talking about schools. Kim works for the Parents Education League and Caden volunteers for them. It is the only Non-Profit in Los Angeles helping parents with school options. Their reach has often only been over the hill in LA. Part of why we started The LA Kindergarten Class was to bring parent education to the Valley. We want to help parents throughout LA – in the Valley and elsewhere!

If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be?
Caden & Kim: We didn’t realize just how much TIME it would take to get things going. We really love what we do – helping parents throughout Los Angeles with their school searches. We hold classes and work with families one-on-one. Working with families is a joy. We also spend a ton of time on the behind-the-scenes things which isn’t as much fun but is very necessary. We want to try to get the word out about our services but it takes a lot of time and energy!

The L.A. Kindergarten Class is hosting an event in Sherman Oaks later this month:

  • 9/30: The L.A. Kindergarten Class (90 minute class focused on District Schools, Magnet Programs, Affiliated Charters, Independent Charters & Private Schools)
