I met Stephanie Alvarez last year when I attended a Ruby Ribbon styling session at her home. Stephanie was so gracious & entertaining as I tried on a bunch of different outfits. Usually when I try on shapewear at a department store, it is kind of a drag, but Stephanie made it so much fun! As a Ruby Ribbon Independent Stylist, Stephanie works for a company that inspires women by fostering a community of friendship & empowerment.
Please meet the latest Real Mom of the SFV, Stephanie Alvarez!
How/why did you begin your business?
Stephanie: I started my career in direct sales about 7 years ago. However Ruby Ribbon came into my life about 9 months ago and I’m LOVING it! Ruby Ribbon helps women build confidence and makes each person feel beautiful inside and out. As simple as that may sound, it’s the truth and I get chills every time I witness the magic.
As a working mother, what is one tip or piece of advice that you would give to other female entrepreneurs?
Stephanie: Keep set business hours. Family time and communication are key with your children and spouse. I’ve found that working as an entrepreneur can be very rewarding to mothers of young and older children by allowing you to be available when certain situations come up. I almost never miss my son’s high school baseball games.
What do you like best about having a business in the San Fernando Valley?
Stephanie: Having grown up in the West Los Angeles area for most of my life, it was hard to make new friends. However having my own business in the San Fernando Valley has brought many lovely women into my life and some of them are near and dear to me. They are actually my BFF’s!
If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be?
Stephanie: I wish I would have started my business a lot sooner. Also never think you need to be an expert or have all the answers, just get out there and market yourself! We all have something to offer, whether it’s a product, our attention or by motivating others.
I completely agree with Stephanie’s advice about keeping set business hours & scheduling family time. As someone who works from home, sometimes business hours bleed into personal family time. It’s important to allow yourself to be fully present with your children & partner.
Having seen Stephanie’s work first-hand, I know how rewarding it can be to work for Ruby Ribbon. For more information on Ruby Ribbon, check out the website here. Also don’t forget to “like” Stephanie’s Ruby Ribbon Facebook page so that you can get the latest updates!
