Hooray, it’s Friday! Although this was a short work week for me (my office was closed on Monday in observance of the holiday), I feel like I packed in a lot of things.
However, most of the things I’m going to mention in this ‘Friday Feels’ blog post took place over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. We hopped all over LA and the San Fernando Valley. Oh, the places you will go indeed!
Stand-up Paddle boarding (SUP) in Marina del Rey
I love doing SUP! Having done this about a half a dozen times now (twice in Hawaii) and a few times in California, I am somewhat obsessed.
If we lived closer to a body of water, then I’d consider buying a board but that’s the stuff that dreams are made of. As it is, it took roughly 30 minutes to get to Marina del Rey on a Saturday morning (it pays to get on the 405 freeway early), but about 45 minutes to get back to the Valley that afternoon.
Spending a day out in the MDR is totally worth the drive though! The weather is beautiful and something about being out on the water in the marina is very calming. I felt very centered and relaxed after an hour on the paddle board.
Dragonfly Cycling in Sherman Oaks
It’s no secret that when you work out, you feel better – physically and emotionally. I may hate the class and/or the teacher while I’m exercising but afterwards I will sing their praises because I always feel so GOOD afterwards. The rush of endorphins and the sweet relief of a job well done make me think, mission accomplished!
On Sunday, Fourth of July, I made my way over to Sherman Oaks to take a spin class at Dragonfly Cycling. Jess (owner & instructor) taught the class. Although it was my first time at this fitness studio, I felt right at home. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had a lot of questions when I was checking in through ClassPass.
Jess taught an amazing class – the music was great, she had a 4th of July themed playlist and overall it was an awesome (and sweaty) workout! Speaking of ClassPass, I bounce around to different fitness studios and gyms with this app. It’s a nice way to try out different workouts and classes without the commitment to one studio. Seeing Europe by way of watching “Black Widow”
Ok, see what I did here? So we didn’t actually go to Europe, but we did get to view the locations of Norway, Budapest and Morocco through the eyes of Natasha and Yelena in Black Widow. Last week, my family and I watched an early screening of the film. It was action-packed and I really liked it! If you want to read my spoiler-free review, click here.
Mochinut at Westfield Century City
On Monday, I wanted to get out of the Valley for a few hours. Since it was going to be hot that day, I thought it would be nice to go to an outdoor mall on the Westside where it was cooler. We shopped, ate lunch and tried Mochinut for dessert.
What is Mochinut? Is it mochi or a donut? According to their website, mochi donuts are made with rice flour, which makes it stretchy and chewy. How does it taste? Regular donuts are a little more dense, but mochinuts are light and delicious!
Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream
Did you know that you can get a free scoop of ice cream on your birthday when you opt in to Baskin-Robbins’ Birthday Club? Sure the scoop is a little small (it’s a kid size 2.5-oz. scoop), but a scoop is a scoop! We redeemed our coupon over the weekend and got their flavor of the month, Beach Day. I love the color and it tasted yummy! A scoop of Beach Day consisted of salted vanilla flavored ice cream with milk chocolate flavored caramel filled sea turtles. The crunchy texture was made with pieces of graham cracker.
So what places will you go this weekend and what things will you see? As for me and my family, I’ll give you a hint, it has to do with a movie about basketball. Stay tuned… 😉
