Not only have the summers in Southern California been blazing hot, but the mosquitoes have been out of control! I get mosquito bites from time to time, but the one who suffers greatly is my husband. He gets bitten just by walking out our front door! Lately, he’s been accompanying our teen daughter on her evening trail runs in the San Fernando Valley and the mosquitos have been problematic for him.

How/why did you begin your business?
Merav & Stacy: Well, have you noticed over the last several years that Los Angeles has got a real mosquito problem? It’s real, and it has really impacted the quality of life outdoors for us. Our families, especially our kids, were suffering and the only thing that was working was prescribed steroid creams. Not good!! We searched and searched for better cleaner alternatives that actually worked. When we couldn’t find them, we decided to make our own. All Better Co. is everyday first aid solutions powered by plants, and we are tackling mosquitoes first!
As working mothers, what is one tip or piece of advice that you would give to other female entrepreneurs?
Merav & Stacy: One question we actually get from other moms is “how did you do it, I can’t even imagine starting a business.” And our response is always the same – “if you can sign up multiple kids for multiple camps, you can start your own business!”
What do you like best about having a business in the San Fernando Valley?
Merav & Stacy: We are both from here. Stacy is born and raised in the Valley and Merav’s family came here from Israel when she was 8. We are very much rooted in the community here and it feels pretty special for our children to watch us build something from the ground up where they live.
If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be?
Merav & Stacy: Something that surprised us early on was how few founders are actually starting with very little, to nothing, like us. Many founders have deep industry experience, deep networks and are well-funded. These are not things we had – so at times, it feels like the hustle can be way more significant. But we just keep going!!

Definitely going to check them now. Living in the land dubbed ‘The Great Lakes State’ is an adventure. But because of those lakes , so is the fighting off of those mosquitoes!
