Cormorant Boutique Hotel in La Jolla

Posted on August 8, 2023 | Filed Under: Food, Reviews | Tags: Birdseye Rooftop, Cormorant Boutique Hotel, La Jolla, Prospect Market La Jolla | 2 Comments

Cormorant Boutique Hotel is a modern hotel located in the heart of La Jolla Village. The hotel sits on the same site as the former La Jolla Inn. After the property changed ownership, it underwent extensive renovations, and in May 2022 the Cormorant Boutique Hotel opened its doors.

The Cormorant has 26 guest rooms, most with balconies and ocean views. We were lucky to stay in two of them (more on that later).

Upon check-in, your car will be whisked away by a valet driver. After that, you don’t really need your car again because the Cormorant is just steps away from a plethora of shops and restaurants. It is also a short walk to La Jolla Cove, where you can watch the sea lions sun themselves on the rocks.

Cormorant Boutique Hotel is also home to Birdseye – a rooftop restaurant, bar and lounge. My husband, daughter and I had brunch and it was so lovely. The rooftop view is incredible, the restaurant staff was attentive and the food was delicious!

So how are the rooms? We were initially booked in a Double Queen Suite. This spacious suite is ADA-compliant with two queen beds and a large desk. There is a separate living room space with couches, a table and a kitchenette with a mini-fridge and a sink.

The room is street level, accessed from the sidewalk on Girard Avenue with a small walkway/front door landing for hotel guests. When we walked through the door, we were greeted with a small bag of sweet treats, courtesy of the hotel staff.

Unfortunately, there was a freak accident with the plumbing above our hotel room and during the evening we had to leave our hotel room. The hotel staff was responsive and quick to react to the problem. At that point, we moved to the third floor. My 17-year-old daughter was thrilled to have her own Queen Room, complete with a balcony. My husband and I had a room right next door to hers with a similar layout (Queen Room, balcony with ocean view).

La Jolla is the perfect destination for beach enthusiasts, nature lovers, shoppers and foodies! With so much to see and do, you’ll want to stay somewhere that is close to all of the action. Cormorant Boutique Hotel has many conveniences – you can’t beat the location, an awesome rooftop restaurants/bar and also onsite is Prospect Market, a grab-and-go market containing drinks, snacks and souvenirs.

Thanks to Cormorant Boutique Hotel for hosting our stay and to Birdseye for our lovely meal!

Disclosure: No monetary compensation was received for this post. The Cormorant Boutique Hotel hosted our complimentary one-night stay, which helped facilitate this review. All images are my own unless otherwise noted. As always, my opinions are 100% my own.

What a great spot for a weekend getaway. I love that so much is within walking distance. Even sea lions. ☺️
