‘The Blue Angels’ in 3D IMAX at California Science Center

Posted on March 4, 2025 | Filed Under: Local Events, Pop Culture | Tags: California Science Center, Lt. Commander Monica Borza, Paul Crowder, The Blue Angels, U.S. Navy | 5 Comments

This past weekend, my husband and I attended a special screening of The Blue Angels at the California Science Center in downtown LA. I knew that we would be in for a real treat because we would be watching it in IMAX 3D on a giant 7-story screen.

The film takes audiences behind-the-scenes and reveals a year in the life of the Navy’s elite Flight Demonstration Squadron—from the careful selection process through the challenging training and demanding eight-month show season.

The Blue Angels have been enthralling crowds—across the country and around the globe—for more than 75 years. IMAX Entertainment proudly presents a thrilling new abridged 3D version of the documentary The Blue Angels taking audiences soaring with the Navy’s elite Flight Demonstration Squadron as never before. Filmed for IMAX®, the immersive footage puts viewers directly into the cockpit for a firsthand view of the Blue Angels’ precision flying, while the aerial shots deliver a spectacular showcase of the breathtaking maneuvers that have made them the world’s premier jet team.

Directed by Paul Crowder (The Last Play at Shea), the film features Captain Brian Kesselring, Lieutenant Commander Monica Borza, Lieutenant Commander Julius Bratton, and many more.

The shots that the film crew captured are so amazing – it’s like you’re inside of the F/A-18 with them! Watching it in IMAX is incredible because it is so crystal-clear and the 3D effect makes it all the more cooler.

Following the screening, we got to meet Paul Crowder and Lieutenant Commander Monica Borza, and take part in a Q&A session. Check out the video below and hear what Lt. Commander Monica Borza had to say about becoming a Blue Angel. Further along in the video, Paul Crowder explains how his film crew was able to film the F/A-18s in flight.
