Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu {Movie Review}

Posted on May 21, 2026 | Filed Under: Pop Culture, Reviews | Tags: Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Star Wars, The Mandalorian and Grogu | 4 Comments

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu opens tomorrow, just in time to kick off the holiday weekend!

The film is a continuation of The Mandalorian television series, not the film saga. However, you don’t really need to know anything from the TV series going in, as there’s not a lot of callbacks to the show.

The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.

The first 20 minutes of the movie are thrilling and fast-paced with fight scenes and explosions.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is directed by Jon Favreau and features a supporting cast of Sigourney Weaver (New Republic’s Colonel Ward) and Jeremy Allen White (he voices Rotta the Hutt).

The iconic film director, Martin Scorsese, voices a multi-armed fry cook named Hugo in a funny scene.

The film is a fun popcorn movie. Grogu steals the show, along with the tiny Anzellans (they look like Babu Frik)!

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu doesn’t necessarily advance the plot forward. My husband and daughter, who are fans of The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars, were hoping for more references and tie-ins to those shows. That said, we were thoroughly entertained. The movie is packed with action, humor, and heart!

    This definitely sounds like a perfect holiday weekend movie. Grogu and the Anzellans already sound absolutely adorable.
