When I first heard Seal’s music back in the early 90s, I was just starting college & still rocking the big hair (not sure why). I played those two CDs (“Seal” & “Seal II”) to death! Since then, he has released many more albums. The last two recent ones “Hits” & “Commitment and Soul 2” were so-so in my book.
That’s why I am super excited to review his new “7” album that releases today, November 6th!
It is a true return to form which makes total sense since Seal is teaming up again with Trevor Horn, the guy behind “Crazy,” “Kiss From a Rose” & “Prayer for the Dying.”
I’ve listened to the entire album & to me these are the standout songs…
Daylight Saving: It’s one of those crooning, let’s all “set fire to the rain” type of songs. So in other words, I LOVE it!! This is a great song to kick off his new album, where he returns to true form. When he sings “You & I we’re like the weather, you & I are like sun & rain…but we’re not still together, we’re not the same, ‘cuz nothing lasts forever.” – chills!! One can’t help but think that he is singing about his relationship with ex-wife Heidi Klum.
I’ve always liked how soulful Seal’s music is & that he can take a song & personalize the heartache of it all (much like Adele or Gwen Stefani) – two other faves of mine.
Every Time I’m With You: Another really great Seal song (IMHO). Check out the video & give it a listen!
Life on the Dancefloor: Has an upbeat tempo. I can see this song playing at a club. I played the heck out of Seal’s song “Crazy” & I can see people doing the same with this song. Speaking of “Crazy,” my spin instructor had an awesome remix version of that song which just GAVE ME LIFE on that stationary bike! Maybe I can get her to do one for “Life on the Dancefloor.” But I digress…
Padded Cell: I was humming this song all day yesterday. With lyrics like “I’m in a padded cell. I’m a million different people living inside of me” – it’s a great reminder we are all complex, complicated people at times.
The Big Love Has Died: Great melody…just haunting – love it!
I can honestly say that this album is going to be added to my rotation of Seal songs. I can’t wait to make a new playlist!
Seal’s New Album “7” drops on November 6, 2015 & is available for purchase through these two sites & wherever albums are sold!
