I met Lisa Lillien (aka Hungry Girl) last year at the Shape Magazine Meet & Tweet event in Santa Monica. She was presenting during a panel entitled “Taking Your Brand to the Next Level” & gave some excellent tips. When I found out that Hungry Girl headquarters is located in the San Fernando Valley, I immediately thought about doing an in-person interview & tour!
The Hungry Girl headquarters is affectionately called “Hungryland.” As I walked into the building, I was blown away with how colorful everything is – from the lobby, to the offices & cubicles, as well as the common areas such as the lunch room & Hungry Girl Test Kitchen! It reminded me of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, only the focus here at Hungryland is cookbooks & healthy meal recipes.
Hungry Girl has been at this location since 2013. The offices look friendly & fun to work in – I even jokingly asked Lisa if she was hiring! The test kitchen is here & photo shoots are done in-house as well. The Hungry Girl videos that you see on her website are shot here as well. Graphic design, editorial & marketing departments are housed at this Hungryland office.
Hungry Girl has published one or two books per year since 2008. Lisa currently has 10 books out in the marketplace. Hungry Girl is wrapping up production on the newest cookbook Hungry Girl Clean & Hungry: Easy All-Natural Recipes for Healthy Eating in the Real World which is due out on April 5, 2016. The recipes featured in this particular Hungry Girl cookbook are all “clean recipes.”
Hungry Girl cookbooks have always been about making “smarter food choices.” That philosophy has evolved over the years, as food trends have come into play. The Hungry Girl Clean & Hungry cookbook has all clean & all-natural food recipes. I am personally looking forward to this latest cookbook, which is being released in the spring!
Thank you SO much to Lisa Lillien & the Hungry Girl/Hungryland staff for the interview & tour! They have generously donated two cookbooks for me to raffle off to ONE lucky Real Mom of SFV reader! The titles of the cookbooks are shown in the photo below.

Hungry Girl was one of the first blogs I ever read… When I first started scouring the internet for blogs! Her newsletter was always an exciting email for me to get when I was younger too – ha ha! I love her animated personality 😉 Granted, a lot of the foods she says are “healthy” I do not agree with… AT ALL. But for the general public that doesn’t know much about health and are not willing to give up all their favorites, she does offer some OK alternatives – ha ha!
