DToX Fitness is a small boutique fitness studio located in Encino on Ventura Blvd. They offer several types of classes ranging from Cardio Boxing, Bootcamp, TRX & Dumbbell Body Sculpt.
The studio is bright, spacious & has a variety of fitness equipment.
The class sizes are small – limited to 10 people & are 45 minutes in length. I like the intimate setting because you feel like you get personal attention from the fitness instructor.
I took three classes, all taught by Ayo Sorrells. They have several instructors, but it just so happened that the three classes that I chose during the time slots that fit my schedule were always taught by Ayo (who is fabulous & has great positive energy).
Max HR Bootcamp
After warming up, we were sent to different parts of the studio to do circuit training that combined weights, cardio & HIIT (high intensity interval training) on various fitness equipment.
I was proud of myself for being able to tackle the heavy ropes & the other exercises, but this bad boy (the metal equipment being dragged on the faux grass) gave me the biggest challenge. We had to push it across the AstroTurf & then pull it back to the starting place, over & over, for what felt like an eternity.
Overall it was a great workout & when I was done, I was able to pull it together for a sweaty selfie!
Max HR Heavy Bag Cardio Boxing
After we did our warm-up, we pulled on our boxing gloves (the studio has a supply so you don’t have to bring or buy a pair) & hit the bags! We did a variety of boxing drills & for those who say “I don’t know an uppercut from a right hook” – no worries, the instructor will break it down for you. It’s an excellent way to relieve stress & afterwards you feel great.
Dumbbell Body Sculpt
This class uses light weights, a medicine ball & yoga matt. It’s a fun cardio class that also utilizes HIIT (high intensity interval training). By the end of the session, I was sweating like crazy & felt really good.
The studio has thoughtful touches like fitness inspirational quotes painted around the studio.
There’s a stack of free towels near the entryway. Believe me, they came in handy about 15 minutes into every session that I attended. However my favorite piece of equipment, hands down, is this roller machine. Instead of foam rolling at home, I just leaned up against this machine, turned it on & let it do the work! My muscles were tight & it really helped ease the tension & knots in my leg.

Nice that you got to try such different workouts. I like the idea of small groups of people … some of the classes I have been too locally were packed so full you could hardly move. Not good.
That roller looks great. What a good idea!
