I connected with Aimee Cane on Instagram a while back. She’s a California Realtor with a focus on the San Fernando Valley. Her two sub-specialties are working with real estate investors and working with rentals. According to Aimee, LA is a great rental market.
I’m very curious about the current conditions of the LA real estate market and I thought it would be fascinating to interview someone in the real estate industry at this time.
Please meet LA Realtor – Aimee Cane!
How/why did you begin your business?
Aimee: My reason for starting a career in real estate is because historically Los Angeles real estate has been a solid investment with proven appreciation over time. In times of stock market volatility, people will often flee from equities and put their money into the purchase of real estate as they know it’s an asset with multiple lines of revenue like tax advantages and potential cash flow from rental income. Remember, you don’t want to work for your money – you want your money to work for you.
What is one tip or piece of advice that you would give to other female entrepreneurs?
Aimee: Well, I think this tip applies to any entrepreneurs, not just the women, but I think it is critical to always be discovering and deepening your understanding of who you are because if you want to change the world, start with yourself first.
I recently went to a True Colora temperament course presented by fellow entrepreneur and San Fernando Valley resident, Diana Steele. It really helped sharpen my communication skills and build better self-awareness. Next time she hosts a True Colora event check it out because they are fun and entertaining all while you are learning about yourself and others.
And if you’re looking for a good read, my neighbor and another fellow entrepreneur, Valerie Alexander, wrote How Women Can Succeed in the Workplace (Despite Having “Female Brains”). This book really helped me learn the best ways to display all the value I bring to my clients and company, and how to compete to win in a system designed by men, so I get more highly rewarded for my achievements.
What do you like best about having a business in the San Fernando Valley?
Aimee: The San Fernando Valley is a real Goldilocks zone, it offers the best of all worlds – we have the opportunity, population and cultural advantages of being in a metropolis, while maintaining a neighborhood vibe – or really the vibes of many diverse neighborhoods, each with their own unique flavor. We have everything a small or medium or large business needs to thrive. It’s the best of LA without the worst of LA.
If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be?
Aimee: That’s a great question. The truth is, we all make mistakes, and if you are savvy, each one becomes a lesson – something to learn from. So, I wish I would have given myself a break when things didn’t work out great – we tend to beat ourselves up when we should take each hit as an opportunity for growth. Looking back, each obstacle I faced – win or lose – made me stronger.
