For my family, summer vacation means trips to the beach, staying up late and visiting local theme parks. A few days after my daughter took her last final, we headed over to Universal Studios Hollywood to check out Super Nintendo World, drink some Butterbeer and go on the World-Famous Studio Tour (aka the Universal Studios tram ride).
After going through the security screening and turnstiles, we headed straight for Super Nintendo World. The entrance is really cool and the rainbow-colored tunnel makes for a cool photo (although I was in such a hurry that I didn’t stop to take one.
Once you pass through the tunnel, it’s like you’ve stepped inside a Super Mario game.
As soon as my family got in line for Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, I ran over to Toadstool Café to make a meal reservation.
A word of advice, if you want to eat at this cafe, you’ll need to head to the entrance as soon as you get into Super Nintendo World so that you can scan the QR code and reserve a spot. The reservations go very quickly and even though I got to the door at 8:15am, there was only one slot left for the afternoon and by the time I typed in my email address, it was already taken. The café was taking walk-ins at 8am but since my family was already going through the Mario Kart line, I decided against it. We ended up having a lovely meal at Three Broomsticks inside the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but more on that later!
We waited nearly an hour to get on the Mario Kart Bowsers Challenge ride but there was so much to look at while waiting in line that we really didn’t mind.
The ride itself is fun – players try to collect coins while wearing special augmented reality goggles. Naturally, my husband and daughter (gamers) scored more points than I did, but it was all in good fun! You can also buy a Power-up Band for additional games inside the Super Nintendo World, but it’s not required for the Mario Kart ride. You can see more photos in my video below.
After our adventure in Super Nintendo World, we visited the other areas of the park. But first, it was time to eat. Did you know that Three Broomsticks inside of Wizarding World of Harry Potter serves breakfast? If you arrive before 10:45am, you can have a lovely traditional English breakfast. They also serve pancakes for those who would like an American breakfast.
We had a great time going on all of the rides (Jurassic World, The Secret Life of Pets, etc.), the tram tour and taking in the WaterWorld show. All in all, we had a great time! Thanks, Universal Studios for hosting me and my family!
