This past Saturday, I visited the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden with my family to experience “Lightscape” which is a family-friendly walking event to celebrate the holiday season. Have you been to the LA Arboretum? The 127-acre garden is a delight to visit! Ask around and I’m sure you’ll find folks who have toured the botanical gardens or even planned an impromptu photo shoot for engagement pictures.
When we arrived on Saturday evening, I noticed that they had a variety of food trucks stationed around the Arboretum’s Bauer Fountain, just before the walking trail. This made it extremely convenient to grab some dinner before we viewed the light installations. The trail is an easy walk that spans roughly one mile. The sidewalks and trails are lit, making it easy for people of all ages to navigate.
Here’s a quick video to show you our experience!
The LA County Arboretum is the perfect setting. My favorite is the Winter Cathedral’s Arch Tunnel, while my daughter really loved the Feast of Light’s glittering suspended beaded curtains, which are a new installation for 2023.
Stroll through nature as you hear tunes like Michael Bublé’s “Holly Jolly Christmas” and Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “Winter Wonderland.”
As I mentioned earlier, Lightscape offers a variety of foods (some vegan/vegetarian), sweet treat stations and three full-service bars for the those who are 21 years or older. There is even a DIY S’mores Station at the end of the walking trail, although it will set you back $11. However, I saw many children roasting marshmallows and the experience looked fun!
In the days leading up to Christmas, Santa Claus will visit Lightscape on designated Santa Nights: December 7, 8, 9, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22 and 23. Santa will greet families and pose for photos where guests can use their own cameras or smartphones to capture precious memories with Santa.
Thanks, LA County Arboretum for hosting me and my family!
I highly recommend visiting Lightscape. It’s a great activity for the whole family and/or to do with a group of friends!
