Arthur the King is based on the true story of Mikael Lindnord, an adventure racer. The film is funny, action-packed, and has many heartfelt moments. Mark Wahlberg plays Michael Light (character based on Mikael Lindnord) and the movie follows him on his quest to win a racing competition.
The film stars Mark Wahlberg (The Family Plan, Uncharted), Simu Liu (Barbie, Shang-Chi), Nathalie Emmanuel (Fast X, Game of Thrones), Ali Suliman (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Homeland), with Bear Grylls as Himself, and Paul Guilfoyle (Julia, The Good Fight).
Here is a quick synopsis of Arthur the King:
Over the course of ten days and 435 miles, an unbreakable bond is forged between pro adventure racer Michael Light (Mark Wahlberg) and a scrappy street dog companion dubbed Arthur. Based on an incredible true story, ARTHUR THE KING follows Light, desperate for one last chance to win, as he convinces a sponsor to back him and a team of athletes (Simu Liu, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Ali Suliman) for the Adventure Racing World Championship in the Dominican Republic. As the team is pushed to their outer limits of endurance in the race, Arthur redefines what victory, loyalty and friendship truly mean.
Adapted from the book “Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home” by Mikael Lindnord, the film has many touching scenes. It made me want to learn more about the courageous dog and Mikael Lindnord, the person who Mark Wahlberg’s character is based on!
The adventurous spirit of the racers and the tale of the courageous dog left me inspired. I highly recommend it! It’s PG-13 and while I saw it in a theater with both small kids and big kids, I feel like it’s best for kids 8 years old and above. There are moments where young kids or those who are sensitive may feel sad (bring tissues), but just know that it has a happy ending!
Overall, it is a feel-good movie and you might even walk away from the theater wanting to adopt a dog! 😉 Thanks, Lionsgate for inviting us out to a special screening experience of “Arthur the King.”
