For the past four years, I’ve been trying to get back to my pre-pandemic weight. However, it’s been a struggle at my age. The weekly workouts and trying to eat nutritiously (or so I thought), brought very little results. During a visit to the doctor earlier this year, I lamented about not being able to lose the pounds and my waistline being an issue. I was told that because of my age and hormone imbalance (I’m perimenopause), I was going to have to work harder than before to lose the weight.
My aha moment came in September when I had my annual physical and found out that I was pre-diabetic. This instantly motivated me to take action, and I reached out to Cherillyn, the owner of BeBalanced Woodland Hills, to schedule a free consultation.
BeBalanced was founded in 2008 by Dawn Cutillo. She introduced the “Natural Hormone Balancing” method – educating women on proper nutrition, exercise and hormone balancing. The great thing about this program is that it does not rely on GLP-1 medications (not that there is anything wrong with that). However, the focus is on eating whole-foods, using stress-management techniques and taking supplements to bring things back into balance.
The program encourages light exercises like walking, yoga, and core exercises. For the first time in forever, I was pausing my efforts on intense cardio exercises. For 31 days, I was going to refrain from boot camp classes, jogging, Zumba, etc.
I’ve taken up daily meditations while I’ve been on BeBalanced. On some level, I understood that stress does impact your hormones, which in turn will affect your weight loss journey. I also knew that during times of stress, I tend to “eat my feelings” and turn to crackers, chips, dips and cheese. Unlike friends and family, I generally didn’t choose sugar for comfort, but my weekly lattes (even with soy milk) probably didn’t serve my purpose of losing weight.
I’ve had to reprogram my way of thinking and so when I’m stressed, instead of reaching for chips, I do something active. Now you’re probably thinking, how can one do that while working during the day? Not everyone has time to drop what they are doing at work and take a yoga class. For me, it can be taking a walk around the block (I work from home), going in the back yard and doing stretching exercises, or if I’m off-the-clock, then I meditate. Meditating has done wonders because it lowers one’s cortisol and increases serotonin (that “feel good” chemical).
While on BeBalanced, I have eliminated sugar, gluten, starchy vegetables, oils, dairy and artificial foods from my diet. I’m also weighing all of my proteins before cooking. When I compare how I did grocery shopping in the past, I’m amazed at how I’m buying more in the produce aisle for fresh veggies and fruits than ever before! I think previously I shopped for convenience, but at what cost?
I’m happy to say that as of today, I am down nine pounds, and I am on Day 19 on the program. I’m excited by the progress, but at the same time I understand that the purpose for me is not just to lose weight. I spent a lot of time thinking about my “why.” Am I doing this for health reasons (to get out of the pre-diabetes zone), to improve my appearance, so that I can fit into my old clothes, or all of the above? Everyone’s “why” is different, but for me, the way I am achieving my goal is by living a BeBalanced life.
Does this sound like something you’d like to try? BeBalanced offers one free consultation (in-person or virtual). I like the idea of being able to go to Woodland Hills and meet with someone in person; however, the great thing about their program is it’s flexible so that you can meet over Zoom with your Wellness Coach if that’s more convenient. There are instances where a client has had great success and referred their friends or family who live out-of-state, and they join the BeBalanced Woodland Hills program virtually!
Also, if you want to move forward with BeBalanced, use code “SHEWOLF20” to get 20% off any program or supplement after booking a free consult here.

I’m probably perimenopausal too. I know I struggle with my weight. I always have. I’m sure that I need to have a consultation to at least reduce my stress hormones.
