Claremont is a suburb of Los Angeles and is home to The Claremont Colleges. It has a population of roughly 35,000 people and a thriving downtown area of over 150 shops, restaurants, bakeries, lounges, day spas, and more!
My mom and I visited Claremont recently for a much-needed weekend getaway! We stayed at Hotel Casa 425 + Lounge, which is in the heart of Claremont Village. We chose to stay here because of its proximity to eateries and boutiques. In fact, after we checked into our room on Friday afternoon, we walked over to Saca’s Mediterranean Cuisine for an early dinner.
Our room at Hotel Casa 425 was located just off the courtyard. It was spacious and perfect for our needs! It had a desk area, a huge tub, a separate walk-in shower, spacious sink area, mini-fridge which came in handy when we couldn’t finish our meal from Gus’s BBQ, and a king bed with a twin-sized pull-out sofa.
@realmomofsfv Hotel Casa 425 is located in the heart of Claremont Village, just steps away from restaurants and shopping. Stay tuned for my staycation recap on the blog! #ShareClaremont #hosted #VisitClaremont #ClaremontVillage
Hotel Casa serves complimentary breakfast in their lounge. Although we chose to eat inside the lounge, I saw several guests enjoy their meal out on the patio. I quickly discovered that the courtyard was a favorite not only with hotel guests, but also locals who could enjoy a nightcap and small plates on a Friday evening, while listening to live band that performed just steps away from hotel, near the local movie theater.
First on our agenda, after we had our Saturday morning breakfast, was to visit the California Botanic Garden. It is the largest botanic garden dedicated exclusively to California native plants, the majority of which are drought-resistant since they’ve naturally adapted to our dry climate, like the Channel Island bush poppy.
We spent about 90 minutes walking around the garden. Such a wonderful and peaceful way to spend a weekend morning! You can see more of our photos from our visit here.
All that walking worked up our appetites! After we went back to the hotel and freshened up, we made our way to The Packing House, which is a downtown neighborhood with shops, restaurants, cafes, and art galleries. Barbecue was calling our name, and since we were familiar with Gus’s BBQ (they have a location in Porter Ranch), we decided to eat there!
After lunch, my mom wanted to relax in the hotel room, so I decided to pop out for some shopping and snacking!
I walked around so much – sightseeing, taking photos and shopping (click here for highlights), that I thought a quiet evening would be best. My mom and I ordered takeout from The Back Abbey, a gastropub located just around the corner from Hotel Casa 425, and ate it in our room. The desk area doubled as our dining table. 🙂
We left Claremont on Sunday and headed back to the San Fernando Valley. The drive was just under an hour and during the commute home, my mom and I chatted about our lovely stay. Living in a fast-paced suburb (the Valley), the small-town charm of Claremont is so appealing and comforting at the same time.
