“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is a sequel for the modern age. As a fan of the book and original movie, the film is everything I could have wanted and more!
The fashion is perfection. The soundtrack is amazing. Oh, and the quips and one-liners are witty (and sharper) than ever!
Twenty years after making their iconic turns as Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel—Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway Magazine in 20th Century Studios’ “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2006 phenomenon that defined a generation.
The first film came out in 2006, before the first iPhone was released and several years before Instagram launched. This new chapter dives deep into the complexities of the 21st century. It forces us to look at the shifting landscape of journalism, the survival of print magazines, and the role of social media clicks and influencers.
At the center of it all is Miranda Priestly who skillfully navigates the pros and cons of being a woman in a top executive position. This time, however, we see a “softened” Miranda, not necessarily by her own choice, but pushed by the evolution of a modern work environment. Also, once again Meryl Streep has nailed Miranda’s mannerisms (that iconic whisper talk!).
Watching the sequel with my college-aged daughter offered a fascinating perspective. Having just binged the original film, she was excited to watch it. However, there is one character where our takeaways were surprisingly different.
My daughter, viewing the film through a Gen Z lens, was quick to point out what she felt was a stereotypical portrayal of Andy’s Asian assistant. While she thought the character fell into certain tropes, I found Jin Chao (played by Helen J. Shen) to be idealistic and a high-energy “go-getter” (like me and my friends when we were in our 20s). It really highlights how much the conversation around diversity and representation has shifted. What one generation sees as “ambition,” another may see as a caricature.
The supporting cast also includes Justin Theroux (Benji Barnes), Lucy Liu (Sasha Barnes), B.J. Novak (Jay Ravitz), Simone Ashley (Amari), Tracie Thoms (Lily), and Tibor Feldman (Irv Ravitz).
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is delightful and entertaining! Whether you’re there for fashion, nostalgia, or social commentary, this sequel manages to feel both fresh and familiar. Without giving too much away, there are veiled references to MacKenzie Scott, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Bezos that had me chuckling.
Just like the first film, the twists and reveals lead to a very satisfying end. It’s a must-watch!
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” opens in theaters on Friday, May 1!
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is rated PG-13.

I’m reading your post very carefully trying to avoid spoilers because we’re watching the movie tonight. Anyway, I’m so happy to hear that it has a very satisfying ending. Now I’m even more excited to watch it!
I loved the book first and then I saw the first movie and enjoyed it too. I imagine I’ll like the sequel. I plan on seeing it with my mom and daughter.

I love the first movie and I want to see this one. Now to plan a girls night to watch it.
I love that you watched this with your college-aged daughter – I just re-watched the original with my Gen Z son (he was curious because the sequel is creating waves) and my husband. It’s so interesting how the first film holds up, and your review makes me excited to see part two. The fact that Miranda has had to evolve with the modern media landscape feels very real. Also, your observation about different generations seeing the same character differently is spot-on. Thank you for this!

I’m sooooo excited to see this move. I’m a big fan of both ladies and the first movie was so good. I can’t wait for me and my daughters to see this one, just hope we don’t be disappointed
Wow! Was it really 20-years ago when the 1st The Devils Wears Prada film was made? I can´t wait to see the second film!
This review feels like slipping back into a pair of designer heels you haven’t worn in years—familiar, a little nostalgic, but now walking on very different ground.
I love how it captures the return of The Devil Wears Prada 2 as more than just a sequel—it’s a reflection of how the world has changed. The film revisits Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs in a landscape where fashion magazines are no longer untouchable empires, but fragile institutions trying to survive in a digital, corporate-driven era.
What really stands out is how the story trades some of the original’s sharp bite for a more reflective tone—still stylish and entertaining, but layered with themes about media decline, changing workplace culture, and the fading power of once-dominant figures. It’s not quite as groundbreaking as the original, but it’s like catching up with old friends who now have deeper stories to tell—less sparkle, perhaps, but more substance stitched into the seams
What a great review! The different generational views on the characters are also very interesting. I loved that film, so can’t wait to see the sequel😍.

Well written review! I just went to see this today and I really enjoyed it! Such a fun sequel
I haven’t seen the first one or this one yet. It’s hard to believe the iPhone came out 20 years ago. I’ll have to check out these movies very soon. Hopefully, I can steam them for free too.
