What comes to mind when you think of Kauai? Maybe great beaches, surfing, & snorkeling! How about horseback riding or going on a zipline? Well, Princeville Ranch Adventures can help you with the last two activities!
Last month our family went to Hawaii for our summer vacation. My parents were born in Hawaii, dad is from Kauai & my mom is from Oahu. My grandma & other family relatives live on Kauai & we knew that part of our time would be devoted to family get-togethers; however, we set aside one day to do a fun family activity. Since my daughter is really into horses (we went horseback riding last year in Park City, Utah), we thought it would be fun to go horseback riding on the North Shore area of Kauai in an area called Princeville.
We arrived at Princeville Ranch Adventures & checked in with our guide after filling out the necessary release forms. My daughter was so excited when she saw the horses! She couldn’t wait to get on her horse named Copper!
Princeville Ranch is a working cattle ranch that has beautiful views of the Hanalei mountains.
When we went horseback riding in Utah, because it was mostly a mountain trail ride, we rode our horses in a single line (or what they call, nose-to-tail). The neat thing about riding at Princeville Ranch is that we could ride side by side (walking, not galloping) since the fields are so wide-open & expansive.
We also rode up hills in a single-file & I was so proud of my daughter who stayed at the front of the pack for most of the way.
The 2-hour horseback riding adventure was so much fun & our guide was so helpful. She even took our family photo!
If you are ever in Kauai, I’d definitely recommend Princeville Ranch Adventures. Next time we go, I want to try the ziplining! 🙂
The other part of our trip on Kauai was spending time with my grandma. Can you believe that she is 91 years old? She is still active in her community, doing volunteer work at the senior center & also with young preschool kids.
When we weren’t eating at the local diners in Lihue near my grandma’s place, we ate in Kapaa near our hotel. There were two cafes in Kapaa that we really loved.
Tiki Tacos is a little hole in the wall place that serves up really great tacos. My hubby got the fish tacos, I had the Tiki Fire Beef (spicy organic beef) & spicy chicken tacos, while my daughter had the kids quesadilla.
We had an early (by at least 4 days) Father’s Day dinner at Lemongrass Grill Seafood & Bar. The food, service & ambience were superb!
All in all, our vacation to Kauai was awesome & we can’t wait to come back again!
Tell me, have you been to Kauai? If so, what were your favorite places to visit? I’d love to hear in the comments section below!

I have not visited Hawaii and this sounds like it would be a great way to see Hawaii without being a total tourist.

I agree Susan, it is a great way to view Hawaii. I hope one day you get to visit the islands!

I love Kauai! There is a great malasadas stand somewhat near the airport in Lihue where I like to stop to get a snack for the plane. I believe it’s in a parking lot of a KMart.

Ooooh…I love malasades! I’ve only had them on Oahu. Now I’ll have to find the one on Kauai the next time I go. Thanks for the tip Bo!
