I have never been to Cake – The Sweets & Party Expo because baking is not my thing. But my friend, blogger Jen Miyagishima, could not go and asked me if I would like to take my family since I live in OC and I readily said “Yes.” Do you know why I said “yes” – because I wanted to see what all of the hype was about! With all of the cake TV shows such as Cupcake Wars on The Food Network, Cake Boss on TLC, and all the reality shows about cake, this is my opportunity to check it out.
So on Saturday, October 17th, I brought my two younger boys to the event. We arrived around 10am at the Hangar Building at The Orange County Fair & Event Center and it was already packed. As a media blogger, I received an insulated shopping bag with a lot of goodies inside. I couldn’t be more excited.
We started with the VIP lounge where you can see an elegant table setting with cake, cupcakes, candles and flower centerpieces. Then we went to almost every booth where my boys got to taste some samples like cake pops. One vendor showcased her product, a Ferris wheel where you can put your party favors.
There were also some breathtakingly table top decorations that you almost feel you are at an art gallery or museum. But the highlight of them all was the cake fashion show or cake exhibit. The designs were so intricate that you almost don’t want to eat it. Two of my boys’ favorite themed cakes were the Minion and the Halloween cake which were entertaining to them.
I asked an attendee with the name of Tanaya about the Cake Expo. Tanaya is a blogger of TanayasTable.com. She said, “I really like the themed huge cake…the holiday theme, it’s so cute. There’s a lot of great stuff here.”
For baking aficionados, they can find all kinds of tasty treats and all the latest tools of the trade. The Expo also offered baking classes, demonstrations and party hosting techniques.
The event was not just for bakers but for people who love the art of decorating, party planners or if you just want to have ideas for your next soirees. I will definitely be back next year.
