Duff’s Cakemix is a cute bakery & DIY cake decorating studio. Located on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, this bakery is such a fun place that’s perfect for a mommy & me date, children’s birthday party or even a girls night out!
My daughter & I recently visited the bakery for a little Mommy and Me time. At Duff’s Cakemix, you can choose to either decorate a 6″ round cake or 6 cupcakes. We decided to decorate a cake & since our favorite color is purple, we chose to use a purple color for the fondant canvas.
You also get to choose 2 buttercream colors (for frosting or piping), 3 fondant ball colors (so that you can create cut-outs with cookie cutters) & 2 goodie bar scoops – like edible glitter, sprinkles etc.
Then it was time to get to our table, set-up our workstation & start decorating! First we rolled out the fondant.
Then we used cookie cutters to cut out different shapes to place on our cake.
My daughter had a really fun time using her imagination. It was neat to see her decide on the colors, theme, type of applications (mold, stencil or freehand), etc. At Duff’s Cakemix, unlike traditional cake decorating classes, you have the freedom to do whatever you want! Although you can ask any member of Team Duff for guidance.
During our visit, there were two different birthday parties taking place, a girls playdate at the table next door & a young couple who were on a date. The decorating studio is spacious so that you can have all of this going on all at once!
We had a blast cake decorating. Once everything was done, a team member helped us box up our cake so that we could take it home.
Since Mother’s Day is coming up, I wanted to let you know of a fun Mother’s Day Cupcake Decorating Event that takes place on Sunday. Here’s the info if you are interested!
I would love to host my child’s birthday party at Duff’s Cakemix. Fortunately for those who live in the San Fernando Valley, Duff’s is expanding & will be opening up a location in the Valley very soon! A “little birdie” told me that Duff’s Cakemix will be on Ventura Blvd, near the Whole Foods in Tarzana.
