Antonio’s Pizzeria: Celebrating 60 Years in Sherman Oaks

Posted on July 24, 2017 | Filed Under: Food | Tags: Antonio’s Pizzeria, pizza Sherman Oaks, Sherman Oaks Italian restaurant | 4 Comments

Antonio’s Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year! That’s right, it’s been in business in Sherman Oaks since 1957. Although Antonio’s is under different management, the current owner faithfully uses the original recipes that the first family & chef developed.

Earlier this summer, I was invited to a media tasting with other local bloggers to try out Antonio’s Pizzeria’s food. Don’t let the name fool you, they serve many dishes at Antonio’s & not just pizza (although the pizza is superb, but more on that later). We started off with their very tasty calamari, which they serve with marinara sauce.

The food was served family-style to our group, around a large table. The starters came out of the kitchen deliciously hot. We had Garlic Fried Gnocchi, as well as Meatballs & Peppers.

The Italian Salad had beets in it & I felt that it really complimented the salad.

After the appetizers, we moved on to Antonio’s pastas! First we tried the Pasta Monica, which is spaghetti noodles served with marinara sauce, meatballs, garlic, onions & wine. It was delicious!

Pasta Rossa is Antonio’s most popular pasta dish. The sauce has a unique color, made with both Alfredo & marinara. This was my fave dish of the night! It’s made with corkscrew pasta, Parmesan cheese, chicken & topped with basil.

I would definitely order the Pasta Rossa again when I come back with my family – along with a salad, the calamari appetizer & probably a pizza for my kiddo. Speaking of pizza…

We were offered three different specialty pizzas: Spicy Margherita, David’s Rossa & a vegetarian one (not pictured). David’s Rossa had chicken & bacon, while the Spicy Margherita definitely lived up to its name because it did have a kick to it!

We ended the meal on a sweet note – with Cannoli that is made in-house. Yep, everything is made from scratch, from the shells to the filling. It’s their signature dessert!

Antonio’s Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant is located at 13619 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423. Parking is available on the street. You’ll recognize the restaurant by it’s famous Antonio’s “boot” sign!

If you are looking for a warm, old school Italian restaurant, then check out Antonio’s! However just because it’s old school, the restaurant is current in their food trends, as they offer a gluten-free menu AND vegan cheese is available upon request. This pizzeria is great for date nights, family dinners, plus it can accommodate large groups. For more info, check out their website or Facebook page!

Disclosure: No monetary compensation was received for this post. I was invited to a media dinner which helped facilitate this review. All images are my own unless otherwise noted. As always, my opinions are 100% my own.
