The MV Grab & Go: Quick Meals For Busy Families

Posted on August 31, 2017 | Filed Under: Food | Tags: Mar Vista Cafe, MV Grab and Go, Westside Family Dinners | Leave a Comment

The MV Grab & Go is a delightful café located on the Westside. It’s directly across the street from its “sister” restaurant, The Mar Vista. Both restaurants are owned & operated by the same trio of chefs: Executive Chef D. Brandon Walker, Executive Chef Jill Davie & Chef De Cuisine Jorge Rivas.

The style of the food at The MV Grab & Go is described as progressive Angeleno cuisine; however, I like to think of it in simpler terms, which is delicious comfort food with an international flair. As you can see from the menu board – the entrees range from tacos to dillas (the MV’s nickname for quesadillas), poutine, salads and even pulled pork or falafel sandwiches.

What does progressive Angeleno mean though? For that, you’ll have to look towards the three chefs, all born & raised in Los Angeles. All three have traveled abroad & felt it was important to take some of those international flavors from Latin, Asian & Middle Eastern cultures & infuse those flavor profiles into the food that is offered at The MV Grab & Go. Also, if you look at the demographics of LA, particularly the Westside, you’ll see that Angelenos come from all different backgrounds & are craving these types of food.

For busy people, who are on the go, it’s easy to just pop into the café on the way to work & grab a cold-pressed juice, along with a breakfast taco.

However the best offering that I found at The MV Grab & Go is their Family Style Dinner Meal. For busy parents, the last thing that you want to deal with after a long day of work, school, after-school activities, etc. is to try to figure out where to buy a healthy AND affordable dinner option that is made completely from scratch.

I know as a mom, I can’t always provide a home-cooked meal for dinner. Our busy lifestyle doesn’t always allow that & there are just only so many times one can grab a meal from a drive-through without saying “ok, enough.”  😉

Recently I checked out The MV Grab & Go, where I had the opportunity to taste their family dinner option for the week which was lasagna, garlic bread & salad.

Here’s what my individual portion looked like which was super tasty! Bear in mind that the Family Dinner will feed a family of 4, so the servings will be much larger.

So how does it work? The menu for the Family Dinner meal will rotate on a weekly basis. Basically you’ll call into the restaurant or order the meal online, then schedule to pick it up between the hours of 4pm-7:30pm. Here is a sample of what one would receive…

The Family Dinner meal feeds four people & its relatively inexpensive. When you break it down, it’s about $7.50 per person, which was key to Chef D. Being that he is a father to 3 daughters, he wanted to make sure that the Family Dinner would be at a price point at (or below) $10 per person. It was important that these from scratch meals were hearty, affordable & convenient for busy families who live in the surrounding neighborhoods of Mar Vista.

The MV Grab & Go is located at 12226 Venice Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90066. There are a few tables in the front, a large patio which is shared with the coffeehouse next door & tables inside the cafe. The hours are 10am-8pm. Parking is available on the street.
