Meet Maricela Alicia, Owner of Alicia and Co. Events

Posted on June 12, 2023 | Filed Under: Real Moms of the SFV | Tags: Alicia and Co. Events, Los Angeles event planner, Maricela Alicia Matos, wedding planner | 2 Comments

Planning a special event like a wedding or celebrating a milestone birthday can be a daunting task. Even just hosting a drive-by for my daughter’s 14th birthday during quarantine required that I reach out to people for additional help. When it comes to wedding planning, having a full-service wedding planner is key to pulling off the wedding of your dreams. Enter Maricela Alicia!

I met Maricela Alicia at an event earlier this year, but I’ve been a fan of her work (on Instagram) for a while now. The events that she produces are always elegant and luxurious looking. I wanted to know more about her business, and I’m honored that she agreed to be interviewed for my blog.

Please meet the latest Real Mom of the SFV – Maricela Alicia, Owner of Alicia and Co. Events!

How/why did you begin your business?

Maricela Alicia: I have always had a passion for planning events. When I first started, I was doing events for free to get the word out on the condition that I could use the photos from the event on my website. I only did about three free events and then began charging a smaller fee. I also worked at a venue and at a bridal shop and offered bartending services as well as hair and makeup. I think it is important to know as much as possible about the industry you’re in to really understand it.

As a working mother, what is one tip or piece of advice that you would give to other female entrepreneurs?

Maricela Alicia: Learn to manage your schedule and have a daily routine. It is so important to carve out time for your kids, family and your business. Having set business hours is hard but try to stick to them for your own sanity.

What do you like best about having a business in the San Fernando Valley?

Maricela Alicia: I know the area extremely well and can navigate all options. However, I can also offer suggestions in the greater Los Angeles area and beyond!

If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be?

Maricela Alicia: To always expect the unexpected and have plans A, B and C.

I think it’s admirable that she worked in different jobs related to event planning so that she understands the business. How many wedding planners have worked at a venue or in a bridal store? I know firsthand that Maricela Alicia has an extensive network and is knowledgeable of various locations for weddings and parties.
