PLANTA Cocina in Marina Del Rey {Foodie Review}

Posted on September 18, 2023 | Filed Under: Food, Reviews | Tags: LA vegan restaurants, Marina Del Rey restaurants, plant-based restaurants, PLANTA Cocina | 8 Comments

As the name implies, PLANTA Cocina is a 100% plant-based restaurant. When my husband and I visited the Marina del Rey restaurant, we were amazed by the food, service and décor!

The restaurant overlooks the water in Marina del Rey and is decorated beautifully.

I’ve eaten at vegan restaurants before in the past, but my husband wasn’t sure what to expect. After studying the menu, I asked our waiter several questions regarding the ingredients and preparation because sometimes plant-based meals are prepared with nuts. Although our daughter who has peanut allergies wasn’t with us, it helps to ask just in case. Also, my husband is allergic to walnuts.

We placed our order and while we waited for the food, hubby drank his horchata.

PLANTA looks at seasonality and availability of local produce when planning their menus. The entrees that we dined on reflected an Asian and Latin fusion. First up…a beautiful Dragon Roll!

Next was the 1,000 Layer Crispy Potatoes made with sour cream, “caviar” and chives. It was really delicious and probably my favorite item of the night.

Then we had PLANTA’s Corn Crab Cakes. I think my husband was expecting a texture that was of a plant-based imitation crab. It was essentially a corn cake, which I thought was tasty and the salad on top was nice and bright. Also, the yellow sauce was amazing! I made sure to dip every bite into the sauce.

The last shareable item was PLANTA’s Crispy Gyoza. We both enjoyed it.

Of course, to end the evening, we just had to have sweet treat! Since peaches are in season, we opted to have the Peaches and Cream dessert. Look how pretty it is and it was a wonderful way to complete the meal. It wasn’t overly sweet, just the perfect amount of sweetness to go with the peaches.

After eating at PLANTA, my husband is now open to the concept of eating more plant-based meals. Overall the experience was great. The food is superb, the view is lovely and the service is great! I highly recommend giving it a try. Thank you, PLANTA Cocina, for hosting our dinner!

    Oh my gosh! I have to go here! That “caviar” looks so tasty. And the crab cakes — very tempting.
