Have you heard of Pvolve? Unless you’re hiding under a rock, chances are you’ve seen the commercials starring Jennifer Aniston on television or on ad-supported streaming platforms. For readers of my blog and followers of my Instagram account, you know that I enjoy working out at various studios using my ClassPass app. So, when I heard that Pvolve offered a free class for first-time users, I jumped at the chance to do the favorite fitness workout of the Friends actress.
The Los Angeles studio is in West Hollywood. Fortunately, I found a parking spot on the street across from the Pvolve fitness studio. After checking in, I walked upstairs, threw my workout bag in one of their complimentary lockers and proceeded to head into the studio. I picked a spot on the floor with an empty Precision Mat and grabbed one of the bins filled with equipment that I’ll use for the class.
The instructor for the Sculpt & Burn class, Lynn Dunn, introduced herself to me and asked if it was my first time. Throughout the class, she made sure to check my form and give me small corrections, which I appreciated.
While some of the movements are like other fitness classes that I’ve taken, a big difference with Pvolve is the equipment. The instructor will give out commands for foot placement on the numbered gym mat while you do certain moves. I work well with visual aids, so it helped that I knew how wide to do the side lunge based on where I placed my foot on the mat.
The other game changer was the heavy ankle band. Not only was the band tighter than the one I usually use at my local gym, but because the straps held firm around the ankle, I could really feel the resistance when I did the leg exercises. I also felt it in my glutes the next day! (This is coming from someone who does F45 Training too!)
There’s also something called the P.3 Trainer, which involves a weighted ball and a handle or ankle strap.
It’s hard to explain the leg exercises, but if you watch this video, at the very end of it, you’ll see someone demonstrating the movement with the P.3 Trainer. The short video also shows various exercises using the Precision Mat.
After the 55-minute class, I felt a little tired yet invigorated at the same time. Unlike some classes where I hustled so hard that I felt slightly broken and in need of a nap afterwards, Pvolve gave me an endorphin high.
Overall I enjoyed the Pvolve workout and would take it again. At my age, I want to focus on exercises that encourage low-impact movement and one that will improve my mobility and flexibility, as well as strength. Like the sign on their wall says, “break a sweat, not your body.”
Currently Pvolve has a new intro offer where you can take one week of unlimited classes for $36. If there was a studio in the Valley, then I would definitely take them up on their offer. However, the commute from my home to West Hollywood is one that I would only do on an early morning weekend. One thing to note, Pvolve has locations across the country, from California to New York, Nashville and places in between.
For those that are really into Pvolve and either travel a lot or just want the convenience of working out in your home, you can purchase the equipment plus a Streaming Membership, which allows you to follow the workout videos. Personally, I’m the type of person that needs in-person interaction – the loud music, motivation from the instructor and rapport from other attendees really drives me to work harder or at the very least, it keeps me honest. 🙂 Here’s hoping Pvolve opens a location closer to where I live, although you can’t beat the views of the Hollywood Hills from their studio!
Pvolve Los Angeles is located at 8447 Melrose Ave. West Hollywood, CA 90069. For more information, visit their website here. Don’t forget to check out their Intagram for the latest updates!
Disclosure: No monetary compensation was received for this post. I attended a complimentary fitness class that was available to anyone in the community. Though a post was not required, I wanted to share my experience. All images are my own unless otherwise noted. As always, my opinions are 100% my own.
