Calling all “Planet of the Apes” fans! The latest iteration, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” arrives on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD on August 27th!
Now there is a gap between where the last film, “War for the Planet of the Apes,” left off and where they are picking things up in the current movie, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.” In this film, Ceasar isn’t here, but his legacy is continuing on. The ape, Proximus, takes on the name Proximus Ceasar and assumes the role as king.
Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise with this action-adventure spectacle from 20th Century Studios. Set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, apes are living harmoniously as the dominant species — and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
The film has a lot of action and Freya Allan as Nova gives a solid performance!
Speaking of Freya, there are behind-the-scenes extras where you get to watch her film a water stunt. The scene requires so much technical skill and training. I have a newfound respect for what they go through!
Another extra is watching the production team build extensive sets that will later combine with 3D renderings / computer graphics for the final version in the film.
The film is available to own on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and a collectible limited edition SteelBook® with custom artwork by artist Dylan Cole.

I’m from the generation who saw the very first POTA’s with Charlton Heston from 1968. That movie set the stage for so many more. What a great movie that is. I have seen a couple more of the newer ones and liked those too.
