On a Friday evening, my family ventured out to the Lazy Dog Restaurant in Thousand Oaks. Our mission…to try out their new Fall Menu!
After reviewing their menu of seasonal items, we gave the very attentive waiter our orders.
First up was our appetizer, the Crispy Deviled Eggs. My husband & I love deviled eggs. What we didn’t realize is that the eggs are lightly fried & topped with smoked paprika & bacon candy. Bacon candy?! Sign me up! So what did we think? It was the best thing we ate that night. Don’t get me wrong, we loved the other food but this is an hors d’oeuvre that we hope becomes permanent on the Lazy Dog Restaurant menu.
I ordered the Butternut Squash Soup, which is topped with coconut cream & candied pumpkin seeds. The soup is flavorful & really warmed me up on a chilly Fall evening. I also loved the breadstick that accompanied it.
My husband loves hamburgers, so he was excited to try the PB&J Burger. It’s a 1/2 pound beef patty, topped with candied bacon, havarti cheese, lettuce, peanut butter & grape jelly. Yes, you read that correctly, peanut butter AND grape jelly! I took a bite of the burger & it was so tasty. I admit, on paper, it sounds a bit strange but Lazy Dog Restaurant created a winner with this burger. You taste a hint of the peanut butter & jelly but it doesn’t overpower the burger, it actually compliments it.
I ordered the Spaghetti Squash & Beetballs. Although I am not a vegetarian, there are days when I enjoy a meatless meal. Noodles made with squash and/or zucchini is all the rage now, so I was interested in trying out this dish. It did not disappoint! Although there wasn’t any meat, the entree was very filling. The vegetarian meatballs are made with veggies (beets & other items) & I found it to be moist & delicious.
My daughter ordered her usual chicken tenders & fries from the children’s menu. She let me taste her chicken & it was moist (not dry – yay) & tasted yummy.
For dessert, my daughter got the kid’s ice cream sundae while my hubby & I shared the Apple-Huckleberry Open Face Pie.
According to my daughter, both desserts are delicious! Naturally she tasted both. As for what I thought of the pie dessert – it’s scrumptious! The fruit is naturally sweet & the combo of ice cream plus caramel sauce that was drizzled on the apples make it like a party in your mouth. 😉
The Seasonal Fall Menu is offered for a limited time at the Lazy Dog Restaurant. For more information, check out their website here & don’t forget to visit their Facebook page to get the latest updates.
