The 90s Experience LA: An Interactive Pop-up

Posted on November 11, 2021 | Filed Under: Local Events, Pop Culture | Tags: 90s Experience LA, 90s interactive pop-up, The 90s Experience, Westfield Topanga | 3 Comments

As a Gen Xers, the ‘90s were my jam! I love ‘90s R&B and hip hop. I remember using the money from my part-time job to buy cassette tapes and later CDs at Tower Records or Sam Goody. Calling friends from a pay phone, people using pagers or having to stand in line to buy concert tickets at The Warehouse, these are all experiences that my Gen Z daughter will never understand.

That’s why when I was invited this past weekend to attend a media preview of the 90s Experience, I jumped at the chance!

Located in the San Fernando Valley at the Westfield Topanga shopping mall, the ‘90s Experience LA is a larger-than-life immersive art/pop-up museum filled with ‘90s nostalgia.

From the minute you walk inside, the ‘90s music is playing loudly over the speaker system. You can’t help but feel happy, recalling memories from that era.

After walking down the hall, we got to play a trivia game. Sadly I lost, as I was a little slow in hitting the buzzer for some of the questions, but I did get points for knowing trivia about MC Hammer and the Genie from “Aladdin.”

You can’t talk about the ‘90s without referencing the movie “Clueless.” The fashion, the catchphrases, the eye roll…as if!

Each room is very unique and it is truly an Instagrammer’s dream!

My daughter really liked this bedroom filled with Asian posters and bedding with blue milk crates for sitting.

However, being a Mariah Carey, TLC and Boyz II Men fan, this was my favorite bedroom!

This pop-up is truly immersive and you’ll want to visit soon as it’s here in Los Angeles (specifically the San Fernando Valley) for a limited time.

I’m a 90’s girl myself. Would love to take my 13 year old to experience my life.

My high schooler would love this, since now that’s the style but man for us this was our life! So nostalgic 😵🙌🏽
