“Poor Things” arrives on Digital at all major retailers on Tuesday, February 27th. To celebrate the release, I attended an event filled with food, fashion, and whimsical fun!
Upon arrival at The Ebell of Los Angeles, I was greeted by the music of the film’s soundtrack. There was a cruise ship model, representing the steamer ship that takes Bella (Emma Stone) and Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo) from Lisbon to Paris.
There were performance artists dressed like Bella mingling with attendees of the party and with the dance troupe.
Also on display were costumes from the movie.
“Poor Things” Costume Designer Holly Waddington attended the festivities.
The highlight of the evening was a special dance by Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson from “Dancing with the Stars”. It was thrilling to watch Val and Jenna perform!
The performance was reminiscent of the dance scene between Bella and Duncan.
In case you haven’t heard of the movie, here is a quick synopsis:
From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
In the spirit of transparency, I haven’t seen the film yet; however, I will be watching it when it becomes available on Digital on February 27th.
Both the digital version and the Blu-ray/DVD (which will be available on March 12th) will feature special features.
