Earlier this week I had the privilege of seeing an early screening of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” in IMAX. To say that the visuals and surround sound were incredible is an understatement!
For those who need a refresher on Godzilla franchise and what the movie is about, please see the film synopsis below!
The epic battle continues! Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse follows up the explosive showdown of “Godzilla vs. Kong” with an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence—and our own. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is directed by Adam Wingard. The film stars Rebecca Hall (“Godzilla vs. Kong,” The Night House”), Brian Tyree Henry (“Godzilla vs. Kong,” “Bullet Train”), Dan Stevens (“Gaslit,” “Legion,” “Beauty and the Beast”), Kaylee Hottle (“Godzilla vs. Kong”), Alex Ferns (“The Batman,” “Wrath of Man,” “Chernobyl”) and Fala Chen (“Irma Vep,” “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”).
Rebecca Hall is terrific in it! As a mom, I really enjoyed the scenes where she engages with Kaylee Hottle’s character Jia, who is her adopted daughter in the film.
The character that I really enjoyed watching is Trapper, played by Dan Stevens, who is like an unhinged Dr. Dolittle. His first encounter with Kong is wild and I won’t spoil it for you, but you just have to see it for yourself! As a fan of “Downton Abbey,” I must say that Dan Stevens (“The Guest”) is in a role unlike any other that he has played.
However, the person that I related to the most is Brian Tyree Henry’s Bernie, who reprises his role from “Godzilla vs. Kong.” Bernie is a podcaster who has endless knowledge and theories on Godzilla and Kong. His dialogue along with Bernie’s facial expressions in the movie that made me laugh out loud. Bernie’s endless quest to document his adventures on camera, plus his nervous behavior made me connect with him.
The true stars of the film are Kong and Godzilla! We discover that as long as Kong remains in Hollow Earth, while Godzilla stays above the surface, then they can coexist peacefully.
For me, it’s Kong’s movie and we’re just living in it. 😉 I also want to say that the mini-Kong, Suko, who you’ll see a lot of in the movie is so cute and has such an expressive face.
Thanks, Warner Bros. for inviting me to screen this movie.
The movie is a wild ride! If you are a Godzilla or Kong fan, then run to the nearest theater, get your popcorn and go watch “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.”
