Friday Feels: The One Where We Kind of Saw the Eclipse

Posted on April 12, 2024 | Filed Under: Pop Culture | Tags: Cheers to Financial Freedom, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, total solar eclipse, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood | 6 Comments

This was a busy week and I haven’t written one of these “Friday Feels” blog posts in a long time. With two fun events happening in the same week, I thought I’d share a quick recap!

The Eclipse

Monday morning started out like it always does – school drop-off, log on to the computer for work, weekly team meeting online and then my coworkers reminded me of the eclipse that was going to happen in 45 minutes. While certain parts of the country saw the total solar eclipse, for those who live in Southern California, it was only a partial.

In true FOMO fashion, I went outside with my special glasses and looked into the sky. Sure enough it was just a partial eclipse. It was nice to be outside on a sunny day for a little bit before I went back inside to answer work emails.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood

On Wednesday I accompanied my daughter’s high school New Media/Broadcasting class visit to Burbank where we went on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. Part museum and part tram ride around the working studio, this is something that should not be missed! We saw Iain Armitage, who was such a class act and posed for photos with each of the high school students, and I also saw Tyler James Williams being driven to the set on a golf cart. In addition to the photo below, you can watch this video of highlights from our tour.

Highlights of Expo West 2024

It took me a while, but I finally published my Expo West recap. You can read the article here. I’ll definitely go again next year if I am able.

Erin Gore – Cheers to Financial Freedom

As readers of my blog know, I like to feature local female entrepreneurs on my blog. It’s important to me to shine a spotlight on businesses and business owners who are based in the San Fernando Valley. My latest interview is with Erin Gore, whose goal is to empower individuals of all ages with the essential principles of personal finance. You can read more about Erin and her company, Cheers to Financial Freedom, in this article.

Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead

Did you know that they were doing a remake of the 1991 film, “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” that starred Christina Applegate? I only found out about it a few weeks ago when I was contacted about a potential interview with the two stars of the film, Nicole Richie and Simone Joy Jones, pictured below.

The interview never materialized, but I was given a screener ahead of time and had already watched the R-rated remake.

Seventeen-year-old Tanya Crandell (Simone Joy Jones) can’t wait to spend the summer living it up with her friends in Spain before heading to Howard University in the fall. But when her mom (Ms. Pat) decides to head to a much-needed wellness retreat in Thailand, Tanya is forced to stay home with her three siblings instead. Following the unexpected death of their elderly babysitter (June Squibb), Tanya gets a job working for the confident and ambitious Rose (Nicole Richie). Juggling work, family, and a complicated romance, Tanya faces the responsibility of adulthood at the cost of her summer of freedom.

The movie was released today, April 12, in theaters by Iconic Events Releasing and will stream on BET+ beginning on May 16, 2024. Is it entertaining? Yes, but in the age of see it in theaters vs. wait for it to watch at home, I vote for streaming!

Happy Friday and I hope you enjoy the weekend!

Ahh! They’re making a remake?! That was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. I still love it, actually. I can’t wait for this!

The eclipse was such an amazing thing to witness, we only had a partial view as well. It’s so cool you got to do the Warner Bros studio tour, that’s on my bucket list!

I get how you feel about the Eclipse! In my country, there was no Eclipse at all.
