Happy Fitness Friday! It has been a hot minute since I’ve written a blog post related to fitness. One of my favorite exercise classes to take is a spin class, aka cycle class. There are four different places around the Valley that I like to go to when I’m in the mood for spinning. Why four? Because not all cycle studios are the same, my friends!
First, a word about spinning. Does the seat hurt after a while during your first class? Perhaps, but you get used to it. I can always tell when there is a newbie to cycling because they talk about it hurting, but honestly, I’ve been spinning for so long that I don’t notice at all.
Secondly, do you need special shoes? Every spin instructor will tell you that cycling is better with those clip-in shoes. I don’t own a pair, but depending on the studio, you can rent them for a small fee, some places give you a complimentary pair for the class, or you can wear regular fitness shoe and stick them in the foot strap holder (if the bike has one).
Ok, so without further ado, here are the four studios that I bounce around to, in no particular order.
Voltage Indoor Cycling
Voltage is located in Chatsworth, in the shopping center at the corner of Devonshire and Mason. As far as I know, Marie teaches all of the classes. She is funny, motivating and has a killer playlist. The bikes take clip-in shoes (shoe rentals are not available), but you can wear your own sneakers. I bring my shoes and buckle them into the straps.
The classes do fill up, but I’ve never had an issue booking a class. Marie fits a lot of stationary bicycles in the space and depending on the time of day, some classes are more full than others. One thing is for certain, you will be sweating by the end of class. I like to say that it’s like a ‘hot cycle’ class because the mirrors do fog up after a while.
If you want to try it out, click here to get more info from their website. Your first class is free, so give it a spin!
CycleBar Sherman Oaks
If I had time in my schedule to drive from my house to Sherman Oaks, then I would be at CycleBar more often. The studio has premium amenities – free water station (bring your reusable bottle), free lockers, complimentary clip-in shoes (if you don’t own a pair), and each bike is given a towel so that you can wipe the sweat off your face! Another cool thing about this fitness studio is that all the exercise bikes come equipped with a pair of weighted bars. The weights are used for strength training, depending on the cycle class and instructor.
For CycleBar newbies, the first ride is free. There is a parking garage connected to the studio, which is on the second floor of a shopping center. The studio will validate your parking, so be sure to get it stamped before you leave. Check out their website for more information!
Motivate Cycle Club Porter Ranch
The spinning classes at Motivate Cycle Club in Porter Ranch are challenging and fun. The cycle studio is nice inside, the sound system is great, and they have complimentary lockers. You have to use clip-in cycling shoes and if you don’t own a pair, you can rent one for a nominal fee.
For Motivate Cycle Club newbies, the first class is free. The Porter Ranch location can be found in the Vineyards at Porter Ranch shopping center. For my readers who live in the Santa Clarita area, there is also a Motivate Cycle Club in Valencia. One thing to note, in Porter Ranch, Motivate has TWO studios inside the shopping center – one for Pilates and a separate one for cycling. Click here for more information.
North Valley Family YMCA
Last, but not least, is my local YMCA. Their cycle classes are in a bungalow adjacent to the main building. The instructors are helpful, kind and funny. I’m here most often because I’m a member.
The music selection varies, depending on the instructor’s taste. You might be wondering, why do I bring up music so much. It’s because for me, music motivates me and helps me stay engaged in the class.
There are a lot of reasons to join your local Y. Community is a big factor, also they have children’s activities, basketball court, swimming etc. To learn more about the North Valley Family YMCA, check out their website here.
Have a great weekend and happy fitness Friday!

We have a local YMCA, and their fitness classes are excellent. Nobody should ever sleep on the Y!
These all sound like great places to get in a good cycling workout. I used to do workouts all the time like this, and the atmosphere of the class is just as important as what you’re doing during the workout.
After reading this article, I feel inspired to try a cycling class. It sounds like a fantastic alternative to my usual workout routine. These studios sound amazing—hopefully, I can find one nearby!
Going for a cycle spinning class is a wonderful way to maintain our fitness in my opinion. Thanks for this inspiring post!

I used to go to a cycling class three times a week, but I had to stop after I suffered from a shoulder injury. I can’t wait to go back to the gym, can’t wait.
Music is also something that’s important to me when working out, so thank you for highlighting music! Sounds like a good amount of suggestions.
I do workouts on my stationary bike at home daily but I have never been to a spin cycle class…..and would love to! I do implement weight training in with the cycling on my bike at home but I would love the group atmosphere of a class for sure!
