I’ve worked in marketing communications for roughly two decades. I have had stints in the toy industry, aerospace, insurance, and even a tech start-up. One of the things that I’ve learned along the way is that surrounding yourself with good people on your team is key to job satisfaction. Another approach I value is a company culture whose leadership style is managed from the bottom-up. This means that leaders encourage ownership and buy-in from their employees.
One such company that excels on those two points is Cowe Communications. How do I know? I’m an employee at Cowe, a business and brand development agency based in the San Fernando Valley. Our passion and commitment to our clients stems from having a leader who fosters an environment that brings out the best in us.
Who is that leader? Please meet the latest Real Mom of the SFV – Miri Rossitto, Founder & CEO of Cowe Communications!
How/why did you begin your business?
Miri: I started my business because I saw a real need among small and mid-sized companies for hands-on, practical support in developing and executing strategies to become stronger, more sustainable, and significantly more successful. Over time, Cowe Communications has evolved from a traditional consulting firm into a full-service communications powerhouse. We now develop, design, execute, and publicize impactful strategies that drive growth and elevate brands.
Beyond raising two incredible daughters, running Cowe Communications has been my greatest achievement. It’s been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work alongside some of the most intelligent, ambitious companies on the planet, and our team at Cowe is, without a doubt, the best in the business. I couldn’t be prouder of this group of brilliant, badass women I work with every day—people who truly care about our clients’ success and bring their all to every project.
As a working mother, what is one tip or piece of advice that you would give to other female entrepreneurs?
Miri: Build yourself a team—the right team. I started this company searching for more satisfaction in my work life, and at first, I thought I was better off on my own. But what I really needed was to find the right people at the right time, in the right place. A few years into Cowe, I met our COO, Nicola, who has an incredible gift for understanding people. She truly understood me and my vision, and once we put our heads together, we started building a team based on passion and talent. We didn’t just fill roles; we created roles that aligned with what people did exceptionally well. As each person thrived, so did the company.
Surround yourself with good, honest, driven people—people who not only want to make the world a better place but who also have a clear understanding of their strengths. When each team member can leverage their talents like superpowers, and combine them with yours, you create a force that’s truly unstoppable.
What do you like best about having a business in the San Fernando Valley?
Miri: The Valley is truly one-of-a-kind. Some people call it a melting pot, but to me, it’s more like a symphony of diversity, with so many different players, sounds, textures, and feelings. It’s sprawling yet intimate, filled with pockets that each hold their own secrets. When you’ve lived here long enough, you start to uncover those secrets, and they resonate on a deeply personal level.
There’s history here, though not in the traditional sense you’d find in places like the UK (sorry, Nic!). It’s a history that feels more human—a rich tapestry you can only come to know through storytelling and unique, sometimes rare, experiences. Doing business in the Valley is anything but vanilla. It’s dynamic, unpredictable, and meaningful. The people, the experiences, they stay with you. I wouldn’t trade it for any other place in the world.
If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be?
Miri: I wish I’d known just how much patience this work would require. I run hot and fast, and even when I’m sleeping, my mind is on the job. I went into this expecting that hard work and speed would bring quick results, but I’ve learned that everything takes time—whether it’s developing logos, building brands, executing social campaigns, or growing audiences. None of it happens overnight, and I wasn’t prepared for just how slow the process could feel.
When clients come to us, they’re often in urgent need—whether it’s boosting sales, increasing engagement, or handling a PR crisis. My natural instinct is to dive in and solve the problem immediately, but I’ve realized that careful, deliberate action is what creates lasting impact. I wish I’d known sooner that taking the time to be thoughtful is more powerful than rushing to see quick results. If someone wants to go viral right now, we may not be the best fit. But if they’re ready to build a targeted, meaningful communications strategy, there’s no team better—or more patient—than ours.
