Earlier this month I went on a boat excursion with Aquarium of the Pacific & Harbor Breeze Cruises. It was the perfect day to be out on the water, as it was a very hot day in the San Fernando Valley & we were excited to be on a boat with ocean breezes whipping through our hair.
But first, let me share with you a little bit of info about Harbor Cruises & the wonderful La Espada, which is their high-speed custom boat. We gathered at Dock #2, ready to embark on an adventure.
Once we were all assembled in the large air-conditioned inside cabin, we were treated to a yummy breakfast. My family happily noshed on pastries while seated at one of the many tables throughout the room.
Then it was time to set sail! La Espada has plenty of inside & outdoor seating. There’s also a snack bar & restrooms. My family decided to go upstairs, where there is tiered stadium style seating, so that we could be on the look-out for blue whales & fin whales.
We learned from Aquarium of the Pacific’s whale expert that both the blue & fin whales are the largest whales on the planet. Not only are these the largest animals to ever have lived on Earth but they are also endangered.
While learning about these interesting whale facts, we cruised out of Queensway Bay, past the Queen Mary & Carnival Cruise Ship. The ocean air was so invigorating. Once we got out towards Catalina Island, we saw so many dolphins!
It was thrillng for my family to “ride the waves” as the waters were a bit choppy at times. I made my way back to the first floor of the boat, to relax in the inside cabin, while my daughter & hubby remained up top.
The entire boat excursion was about 2 hours. Although we didn’t see any blue whales on our boat trip, we saw lots of dolphins & still had a “whale of a time!”
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Harbor Breeze Cruises & the Aquarium have begun their blue whale watch season with trips offered daily at noon & 3:30pm out of Long Beach & San Pedro. These whale watches give guests a chance to witness the largest animals on Earth within their natural habitat.
