Last month, my family and I visited the 3D Augmented Reality (AR) Museum in Santa Monica. This museum, located on Third Street Promenade, combines 3D illustration art with Augmented Reality (AR). Together, these things create the perfect spot for Instagram photos and provides an animated interactive experience!
Using a free “Wake That Paint” app, which can be downloaded to your smartphone, guests are free to walk about the museum taking photos in front of each 3D painting.
As guests of 3D Augmented Reality (AR) Museum, we had the first appointment of the morning. Since no other guests were in the museum at the time, we felt comfortable taking photos without our face mask and then quickly put it back on, in between photo sessions.
In order to see the augmented reality videos, you’ll need to use the app and follow the instructions posted around the museum. For example, here is the photo of my husband dunking a basketball.
Shown below are videos and photos taken with the app, which I posted on my Instagram account. Just click and turn up the volume to hear the music and audio effects!
My family, especially my daughter and husband, had a lot of fun hamming it up for the camera. As you can see below, my daughter took a photo of my hubby using our iPhone with the app. I took the photo of her taking the photo (I know, very meta), using my DSLR camera.
In the video montage above (my Instagram post), you see and hear the lightning and thunder in the video clip. The same goes for the dog and umbrella photo with my daughter. It’s really amazing to compare the static photo to the 3D Augmented Reality video!
Thank you, 3D Augmented Reality (AR) Museum for hosting me and my family! We had a blast and your employees were very helpful with questions regarding the app and how to experience the trick art museum.
