“Book Club: The Next Chapter” opens today just in time for Mother’s Day weekend! Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen are reunited in the sequel to “Book Club” which premiered in 2018. In preparation for the movie screening, I rewatched the original (on Paramount Plus) and dare I say that I liked the sequel even more than the first one.
The women really shine in this sequel. Also, I liked that this movie focused solely on the women’s friendships and relationships with their partners. For example, Diane Keaton’s character, Diane explores her relationship with Andy Garcia’s Mitchell, without her meddling daughters getting in the way (as in the first movie).
The highly anticipated sequel follows our four best friends as they take their book club to Italy for the fun girls trip they never had. When things go off the rails and secrets are revealed, their relaxing vacation turns into a once-in-a-lifetime cross-country adventure.
Additional reasons why I liked this movie a little bit more than the first one are the Italian vistas and the comedic storyline. I belly laughed at several scenes, especially with Candice Bergen’s one-liners and Diane Keaton’s physical comedy. My mouth was watering when watching the Italian food cooked by a chef in the movie. Come for the Italian food, art and Venetian canals but stay for the laughs!
The friendship between the four women make this movie a really special one that you’ll want to see with your besties or even your mom!
