You know that phrase, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger? Well allow me to introduce to you another phrase…tough as a mother.
This past year has been like no other and if you’re a mom, 2020 will go down in the books as the year when you suddenly had to homeschool your kid(s), be a 24/7 cafeteria lady/executive chef, learn Zoom video conferencing technology, and for those who work full-time – navigate work-from-home (WFH) on an internet bandwidth that is also supporting your child’s schooling and your partner’s WFH job.
Jennifer Cervantes, the founder and CEO of Tough as a Mother Tribe, knows that motherhood can be a rough and bumpy journey to navigate. She also realized that being a mom should be celebrated and that’s where her line of Tough as a Mother jewelry comes in.
I was recently sent this “Good Vibes Mama” necklace which is made with Labradorite stone and retails for $39.99. I really love the color of it and the necklace came with a little card that said, “Labradorite enhances our ability to reconnect with ourselves and our true identity as a mother.” Tough as a Mother jewelry highlights both the joy and the challenges of motherhood.
Recently, I had the opportunity to interview Tough as a Mother Tribe CEO and founder, Jennifer Cervantes. Here is what she had to say…
How/why did you begin your business?
Jennifer: I began because motherhood was harder than I thought it would be and I wanted to create things that made mamas feel tough as a mother.
As a working mother, what is one tip or piece of advice that you would give to other female entrepreneurs?
Jennifer: Decide what success means to you and structure your business so that at the end of the day you feel successful. My kids are my priority so I choose to put in small amounts of work time throughout the week because I wanted to be more present with my kids.
What do you like best about having a business based in Southern California?
Jennifer: I grew up in the mountains, so I enjoy living in Southern California and having a business where I can work from home. It is so amazing.
If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be?
Jennifer: Oh that’s tough, I’m not sure, there’s always so much to learn and implement. I see business as an ongoing experience that will look different as the seasons of my life change.
Last weekend I wore my necklace to my mother’s birthday luncheon. As I posed with my daughter and mom, I couldn’t think of a better statement necklace to wear on this special day!
