The Christmas holiday is about one week away. If you’re like me, you still have some shopping to do. I thought I’d compile a short list of suggested gift items that focus on books, movies and more. Read on to see the list!
The Adventures of SuperCaptainBraveMan
“The Adventures of SuperCaptainBraveMan” is the first-ever children’s superhero book series about diversity appreciation, disability awareness, acceptance and friendship. I received “The Adventures of SuperCaptainBraveMan, Book 5: The Hero Inside” and found it to be a sweet book with a wonderful message.
Written and illustrated by Victor Lodevico, the book features Kyle, a young boy who likes to learn new things, make new friends and always lend a helping hand. He has special things that help him every day, like a wheelchair to help him get around and a ventilator to help him breathe better. Along with his little dog Mochi, Kyle finds fun and adventure wherever he goes! But at night, right as he falls asleep, Kyle transforms and becomes…SuperCaptainBraveMan! SuperCaptainBraveMan, a friend to all, is there to help kids when they feel sad, unwell or scared.

Goodnight Dorm Room
If you’re a parent of a toddler, then most likely you are familiar with the book, “Goodnight Moon.” It’s hard to believe that I used to read that book to my daughter many years ago. Now that she’s in high school, the book, “Goodnight Dorm Room: All the Advice I Wish I Got Before Going to College” might be more appropriate for her.
Written by Sam Kaplan & Keith Riegert and illustrated by Emily Fromm, the book has all the advice and information that college-bound high school graduates probably never think to ask. From questions like, “What to pack and what to leave behind? to “Why flip flops are a must” – this book is the perfect holiday gift or stocking stuffer for high school seniors.

Behind the Bid
“Behind the Bid” tells the tale of Enid Ma’s journey that reveals the secretive, elite world of high-end auctions, where class identity determines the rules. The book is based on writer Li-En Chong’s eight years of experience at Hong Kong-based international auction houses. “Behind the Bid” is a tale of laugh-out-loud stories and anecdotes.
If you’re a fan of books like “Crazy Rich Asians” or “The Devil Wears Prada” then you’ll enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at wealth, luxury and ambition. “Behind the Bid” can be found wherever books are sold. If you’d like more information, check out the author’s website at https://lienchong.com/.
Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain (DVD & Digital)
Foodies and fans of Anthony Bourdain will want to watch this movie! I loved watching Anthony’s shows on TV because it wasn’t just about the food, but it was about the culture of the place that he was visiting.
“Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain” is an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at how an anonymous chef became a world-renowned cultural icon. From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, this unflinching look at Bourdain reverberates with his presence, in his own voice and in the way he indelibly impacted the world around him.
Peek into Bourdain’s world and listen to his friends and colleagues share stories and reminiscence.
The film is rated R. Visit the official movie website here for more information.
Rowan
I remember when I got my ears pierced. It was the summer after I graduated 8th grade and I wanted to wear earrings when I was a freshman in high school. I got my ears pierced at one of those places at the mall by a random retail employee.
Rowan offers ear piercing at their own studios and also at select Target stores nationwide. At Rowan, they believe that ear piercing is a milestone that deserves to be honored and celebrated. They put safety first, with ear piercings performed exclusively by a licensed nurse using hypoallergenic earrings made from premium materials.
Rowan also offers cute, sparkly and fabulous earrings on their website. Just in time for the holidays is a Rowan Holiday Box, which you can also gift to your loved one as a monthly subscription service.
Imagine that, getting new earrings each month in a variety of types! From studs, to hoops to threaders and ear cuffs – there is something for everyone!
